Claudia started her career as an artist from a young age. Early on, she studied painting and illustration under Don Keene, Kevin Kline, and Jon Murray. Attending drawing classes on Saturday mornings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, she learned to sketch in the gallery rooms.

At Hunter College and The University of Pau, she briefly majored in Art History before switching to literature, though she continued to take fine arts classes and to develop her unique style. In 2011, she spent six months studying painting in St. Julien en Genevois in the Haute-Savoie region of France.
